What you can change in a scenario
- Country of origin: changes which Chapter 99 tariffs apply and which trade agreements are available.
- Entry date: changes the revision of the schedule, back to 2020, including tariffs that started or ended.
- Value and mode: drive ad valorem duties, the MPF floor and cap, and whether the Harbor Maintenance Fee applies.
- Claims: free trade agreement rates, Section 301 exclusions, metal-content and end-use provisions, ticked on or off.
Using simulations for sourcing decisions
Duty is often the biggest variable between two otherwise similar suppliers. A simulation shows the difference per shipment and per unit, so you can weigh it against price, lead time and freight. Keep in mind that tariffs change: check the current schedule before committing, and rerun the scenario on the expected entry date.
For a single shipment, the duty calculator is quicker. For the method behind the numbers, read how to estimate import duty.
